Privacy Policy

Dunlin is a local-first to-do app for iOS. Your tasks live on your device. We collect as little as possible and never sell your data or use third-party advertising or analytics trackers. There are no accounts and no sign-in. Last updated 13 September 2026.

What we store, and where

Everything you create — projects, steps, recurring upkeep, and your settings — is stored on your device. None of it reaches our servers unless you use an AI feature (see below).

Syncing across your devices

If you want your tasks on more than one device, Dunlin syncs them automatically through your own iCloud (Apple's CloudKit), the same way Notes or Reminders does. That sync is private to your iCloud account — we never see or store it ourselves, and there's nothing to opt into or manage.

Location & weather

With your permission, Dunlin uses your location to show today's local weather on the Now screen. Your location is sent to Apple's WeatherKit to fetch the forecast and is not sent to our servers, stored by us, shared with anyone else, or used for tracking. You can decline or later revoke this in iOS Settings and the app keeps working — the weather glance just stays hidden.

AI features

When you use “Organise this” or “Break it down”, the text you provide (your brain-dump, or a project's title and notes) is sent to our server and on to Anthropic's Claude API to generate suggestions, then returned to you. It is processed only to produce that result and is not used to train models. If you don't use these features, no task text is sent anywhere. Dunlin also offers an optional on-device AI mode — Settings → Private & offline AI — which processes everything on your iPhone and sends nothing anywhere.

Microphone & speech

Voice capture is optional, and only runs while you're using the microphone. It uses Apple's Speech Recognition to turn your speech into text; per Apple, that audio may be processed on your device or by Apple. We don't record, store, or transmit your audio ourselves — we only receive the resulting text, which you then choose to keep.

What we don't do

No advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, no selling or sharing of your data, no location tracking (your location, when you allow it, is used only for the on-device weather glance described above — it isn't collected, logged, or used to track you).

Deleting your data

You're in control. Delete any item in the app (with undo). Deleting the app removes everything on that device; if iCloud sync is on, remove it everywhere via iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → manage storage, or by turning off Dunlin's iCloud sync there.
